Background History
When the East African Community broke up in 1977 the E.A.L.B. was taken over by the Kenya Government and placed under the Ministry of Higher Education, thus becoming the Kenya Literature Bureau.
The Kenya Literature Bureau was subsequently transformed under the Kenya Literature Bureau Act of 4th July 1980 into a body corporate operating under a Board of Management. The Bureau inherited the assets and the liabilities of the defunct E.A.L.B. as well as the Kenya Staff.
