PUBLISHING OVERVIEW
The Publishing Department stands as the core unit of Kenya Literature Bureau. It comprises the Editorial, Typesetting, Proofreading and Art and Design sections.
The department acquires manuscripts and takes them through several preparatory stages for publication. The main functions of the sections are as outlined below:
-
Editorial
The editorial section takes pride in a team of experienced graduate editors who are well-versed in various subject areas.
Editors assess manuscripts presented for publication and edit jobs under production for factual correctness, style, grammar and relevance to target audience.
While serving as the link between the author and the reader, they, on behalf of the company, respond to queries raised by various stakeholders pertaining to the KLB many publications.
-
Typesetting
This section harbours well-trained computer operators who play the important role of laying out titles as per recommended specifications. Kenya Literature Bureau has over the years strived to acquire state of the art computer technology for publishing. A combination of this and the experienced personnel in the section ensures high quality performance and output.
-
Proofreading
This section is mainly vested with the role of ensuring that accuracy is maintained and no matter within a manuscript, especially text, is lost or distorted during transition from one stage to the next.
Proofreaders also prepare word processed work for typesetting to ensure that the manuscripts conforms with our house style. When the laying out of pages is through to satisfaction, the proofreaders verify the proofs’ accuracy; and later check the press (machine) proofs against them to ascertain reproduction quality and precision.
-
Art & Design
This section comprises fine artists and graphic artists. Book designs and illustrations are actualised in this section. This section also works in liaison with commissioned artists. If you are good at fine art, pay us a visit with your portfolio.
