Pioneer book donation drive launched PDF Print E-mail

Prof. Ongeri, Minister for EducationThe Kenya Literature Bureau has donated books worth Sh20 million to more than 400 schools countrywide.

Under a campaign dubbed "Imarisha Kimasomo" primary and secondary schools countrywide received a wide range of books for all subjects.

The campaign was launched on October 30 last year in a high profile ceremony presided over by Education Minister, Prof Sam Ongeri.
Schools that applied for book donations from as far back as 2005 benefited, as did fresh applicants.

The campaign, which is founded on KLB's Corporate Social Responsibility, will be replicated every financial year, depending on the availability of books. Speaking during the launch function at the KLB headquarters, Mrs E.A. Obara, the Managing Director, said it was part of the company's business model to balance corporate strategies aimed at achieving commercial targets on one hand, and promoting sustainable development on the other.

"Our CSR policy underlines our resolve to integrate community concerns into our operations in order to derive mutual benefit for our stakeholders and ourselves", she said.
